A Special Christmas Gift
Written and Submitted by: Irene Wright

There once was a poor young lad who lived among the rich of the land

And attended sheep for another man

Christmas was such a big deal for all the merchants in town

Anticipating big sales all around

Dare he ever dream of having that special Christmas joy

Or would he always be known as that poor little servant boy?

While out on the hillside, news began to spread

About the Virgin Mary and Joseph whom were to be wed

But the angel of the LORD was sent her way

And told her she was to bare a Son on CHRISTMAS DAY!

How could this be, she thought, after all she knew not a man

But the angel said, “Fear not for this is GOD’S plan

He shall be GOD’S SON and be crowned KING one day!”

And Mary pondered all these things as the angel went about his way.

The story continued with Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem

To pay their taxes that put a burden on them

Time had come for Mary to deliver but found no place to stay

Not even a place at the inn, where would she lay?

A crude old stable was soon found

And Joseph made Mary a bed on the ground

Layered with a bed of hay

Mary gave birth to a Son on Christmas Day!

The poor lad wondered if he could believe this story just told

Or was it just some more of the fables spun by the men of old?

While returning to his flock

Suddenly an angel appeared just beyond a rock

And all of the shepherds being fearful fell on their knees

But the angel said, “Fear not for I bring good news to thee,

Those words that were heard are about to unfold,

Indeed, a special Baby your eyes shall soon behold

Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying on a bed of hay

And along with the wise men, a star shall guide your way!”

Suddenly a star appeared in the sky

And the young lad said, “Blessed am I!”

The star came to rest on this tiny Baby’s face

And all of them were filled with His marvelous grace!

Looking upon this special Child, the young lad said, “I have truly found my CHRISTMAS JOY

In the face of this tiny little Baby Boy!”

Wishing you a blessed and joyous Merry Christmas!

Why Do We Celebrate Christmas?
Written by: David Wright

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:11 KJV)

Black Friday! What do you think of when you hear those words? Spectacular deals for Christmas? The (un)official beginning of the Christmas season? The worst day ever for anyone in retail or food service? Regardless of what pops into your head when you hear those words, the phrase bares a special meaning—at least in the U.S. It reminds us we need to start buying gifts for our family and friends.

The Christmas season is wrought with traveling, family get-togethers, office parties, breaks from school, and insane deals on flat-screen televisions. And let’s not forget Santa Claus, hanging the stockings, decorating the tree, eating copious amounts of delicious food, and opening presents. Does this describe your Christmas?

Unfortunately, this probably describes the majority of people in America (and around the world). But what’s the real reason for Christmas? Most people could probably answer this question by stating “the birth of Christ.” But are we truly celebrating the birth of Christ? Sure, the wise men brought Him gifts, but they also worshipped Him. While we give gifts to each other, ask yourself what gift you are bringing to Him. The wise men knew the significance of Christ, so they brought Him gifts and worshipped Him.

But the true gift of Christmas is Christ—the Son of God, who became a man and willingly sacrificed Himself for the atonement of our sins to save us from a justly deserved, eternal punishment. We are blessed exceedingly by this gift but only seem to celebrate it once a year, although we should be celebrating year-round.

Oh, What a Sight!
Written and Submitted by: Pat Lewallen

It was 11:15 pm on Friday, 10/14/16, and I needed something from the store. I told Richard we could hurry and make it to Walgreens before it closed at midnight. It had been a busy day and I really wanted to get some sleep instead of making a trip to Walgreens.

We headed out the driveway and I looked up, and oh, what a sight! There was the most beautiful full moon shining in the night sky. I was so glad we were in the Prius because it has a large windshield! I saw the prettiest crystal clear blue sky filled with all shapes and sizes of beautiful fluffy clouds. I’ve seen so many beautiful blue skies filled with fluffy clouds during the day time but never at night before. I was glad Richard was driving so I could soak up the beautiful view. I hurried into the drugstore, made my purchase and quickly got back in the car. I had to get back to viewing the night sky. It was just as beautiful on the way back home too!

I can’t find the right words to describe this amazing night sky. It caused me to think about how beautiful Heaven will be too! In Revelation 21:10-27, the Apostle John describes the vision of Heaven he was allowed to see while exiled on the isle of Patmos. He said that the gates are made of pearl, the streets are made of gold, and the walls are made of jasper. John also said there’ll be no need of the sun or the moon to create light because God’s glory will light up Heaven. My earthly mind can’t process all the beauty of Heaven now. I’m looking forward to the day I’ll enter God’s glorious Heaven. I know for sure, without a doubt, I won’t be disappointed!

If you want to plant something that will last a year, plant a flower. If you want to plant something that will last a lifetime, plant a tree. But if you want to plant something that will last forever, plant the gospel in someone’s life.

‘Twas the Night Before Jesus Came
~ Author Unknown ~
Copied Article

‘Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house
Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.
Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

When out of the East there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
I knew in a moment this must be The Day!

The light of His face made me cover my head
It was Jesus! Returning just like He had said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

In the Book of Life which He held in His Hand
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
When He said "It's not here" My head hung in shame!

The people whose names had been written with love
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound
While all the rest were left standing around.

I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited too long and this sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
There's only one life and when comes the last call
We'll find that the Bible was true after ALL!

If tonight is the night, as it says in this poem,
Will Jesus be coming to carry you home?
Or will He say, “I never knew ye – depart from my sight!”
Will YOU be ready, if He comes back tonight?

“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor
the hour when the Son of man comes.” Matthew 25:13

The Plan of the Master Weaver
~ Author Unknown ~
Submitted by: Thelma Harris

My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me,
I may not choose the colors,
He knows what they should be;
For He can view the pattern
Upon the upper side
While I can see it only
On this the under side.
Sometimes He weaveth sorrow,
Which seemeth strange to me;
But I will trust His judgment,
And work on faithfully;
Tis He who fills the shuttle,
And He knows what is best,
So I will weave in earnest,
Leaving to Him the rest.
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why –
The dark threads are as needed
In the Weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

Train of Life
Written by: Author Unknown
Copied Article

At birth, we boarded the train of life and met our parents, and we believed that they would always travel by our side. However, at some station, our parents would step down from the train, leaving us on life's journey alone.

As time goes by, some significant people will board the train: siblings, other children, friends, and even the love of our life.

Many will step down and leave a permanent vacuum.  Others will go so unnoticed that we won't realize that they vacated their seats! This train ride has been a mixture of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells.

A successful journey consists of having a good relationship with all passengers, requiring that we give the best of ourselves. The mystery that prevails is that we do not know at which station we ourselves will step down. Thus, we must try to travel along the track of life in the best possible way -- loving, forgiving, giving, and sharing.

When the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty -- we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who continue to travel on the train of life. Let’s remember to thank our Creator for giving us life to participate in this journey.

Little Katie was chattering away for ages to Santa but he didn't seem to understand what it was that she wanted for Christmas. Jumping off his knee, she chirped: "I know. I'll come back tomorrow with my Wish Book catalog!"

Be Thankful
Copied and Submitted by: Lela Farlow Trotter

When you ask God in the morning
For His guidance through the day,
Thank Him for the many blessings
He in love has sent your way!

When you’re asking aid from Heaven
Mingle with your morning prayer,
A word of praise and gratitude
For all His kindly care.

When you send up your petition
To the throne of grace on high,
Thank Him for the many favors
That His mercy does supply.

Be more mindful of the blessings
That His kindness does impart.
And the Lord will doubly bless you
For the joy you brought His heart.

Let Me

Let me count the blessings You have given to me each day
Let me walk in thy light You have given me to guide my way!
Let me stand on Your promises of love
Let me give praises to Your blessed name above!

Let me hold on to Your hand
Let me lean on You when I cannot stand!
Let me find goodness in this world of sin
Let me have compassion on all men!

Let me see Your light that shines through the darkest night
Let me hear Your word that does not take flight!
Let me lift my eyes toward Thee
Let me thank You for Your many blessings on me!

A Divided House
Written and Submitted by: Richard Lewallen

Jesus said “And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Mark 3:24-25 (KJV). Nothing describes America better than a divided house. Instead of living in the “United States of America”, it seems more fitting to say we are living in the “Divided States of America”. What a blessing it would be if we were united in our states. I don’t remember in my lifetime that we have ever been as divided in politics as we are today.

We are divided to the point, I believe it’s dangerous. So many people are at each other’s throats. There seems to be a sense in the air that America is about to continue down the wrong road this election year. We are living in a bankrupt nation with a stalled economy. This election year could possibly be the last opportunity for our nation to get the life support it needs to survive.

I believe this year our religious freedom is at stake. Shame on Christians that won’t get out and vote their conscience! We are custodians of all the blessings God has bestowed upon us, and one of the greatest blessings is the right to worship as we please. This blessing could be flushed away this election year if Christians fail in their responsibility to vote.

I agree with what most people say about our candidates for President, “We certainly don’t have much to pick from.” As we look at the candidates, it seems we must pick the lesser of the evils. But that is exactly what we’re up against this election year. It seems there’s very little we can do. But the Bible teaches us a real truth, “Little is much if God is in it.” If you will simply examine what each candidate stands for, I promise you, God’s Word will tell you which one to vote for!

The Meaning of Flag Draped Coffin
Author Unknown
Submitted by: Faye Byrd

All Americans should be given this lesson. Those who think that America is an arrogant nation should really reconsider that thought. Our founding fathers used GOD's word and teachings to establish our Great Nation and I think it's high time Americans get re-educated about this Nation's history.

Pass it along and be proud of the country we live in and even more proud of those who serve to protect our 'GOD GIVEN' rights and freedoms.

I hope you take the time to read this ... To understand what the flag draped coffin really means ... Here is how to understand the flag that laid upon it and is surrendered to so many widows and widowers.

Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?

Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day!

The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life.
The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, 'Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.'

The 6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their heart that they pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that they protect their country and their flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of their republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding them of their nation’s motto, 'In God We Trust.'

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for them the rights, privileges and freedoms they enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning. In the future, you'll see flags folded and now you will know why. Share this with the children you love and all others who love what is referred to, the symbol of “Liberty and Freedom.”

First they came for the Communists, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.

Philosophy 101

As we grow older, and hence wiser, we slowly realize that:
Whether we wear a $300 or $30 watch – – – they both tell the same time.

Whether we carry a $300 or $30 wallet/handbag – – – the amount of money inside is the same.

Whether the house we live in is 300 or 3,000 or 30,000 sq. ft. – – – the loneliness is the same.

And we realize our true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world.

Whether we fly first or economy class, if the plane goes down – – – we go down with it. Whether we fly first or economy class, if the plane reaches its destination – – – everyone arrives at the same time.

Therefore . . . we should realize that when we have mates, buddies and old friends, brothers and sisters, with whom we can chat, laugh, talk, sing, talk about north-south-east-west or heaven and earth — that is true happiness!

Six Undeniable Facts of Life
1. Don’t educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy, so when they grow up they will know the value of things, not the price.

2. Best wise words: "Eat your food as your medicines. Otherwise you have to eat medicines as your food."

3. The one who loves you will never leave you because, even if there are 100 reasons to give up, he or she will find one reason to hold on.

4. There is a big difference between a human being and being human. Only a few folks really understand that.

5. You are loved when you are born. You will be loved when you die. In between, you have to manage!

6. If you just want to walk fast, walk alone; but, if you want to walk far, walk together!

Six Best Doctors in the World
1. Sunlight
2. Rest
3. Exercise
4. Diet
5. Self Confidence
6. Friends

And, finally: The nicest place to be is in someone’s thoughts, the safest place to be is in someone’s prayers, and the very best place to be is in the hands of God.

Behavior is the mirror in which everyone shows his image.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist.

God’s darknesses are not His goals. His tunnels must be traveled to get somewhere else.

There are 3 ways to get something done: do it yourself, hire someone, or forbid your kids to do it.

What a great world this would be if people would spend as much energy practicing their religion as they do quarreling about it.

Thank You Jesus
Written and submitted by: Richard Lewallen

I believe most Christians would agree with me that we continually short change our Lord in thanks and praise every day. When Jesus received glory and praise from His disciples, He also received a quick response from the politically correct Pharisees, “And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.  And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.” (Luke 19:39-40 KJV). God is going to get His praise!

The creator of the yellow “Thank You Jesus” yard signs that we see around in our communities has tapped into something that is really resonating in the hearts of Christians. Pat and I have placed one of the signs in front of our house. I have to admit I had a great sense of pleasure placing it there. I’m glad to identify with a community that wants to thank Jesus twenty-four hours a day. They are just three words, but they are never said enough. I’m not trying to promote the selling of these signs but I am trying to promote the three words that are on the signs! I might also point out that there will always be critics to anything and everything that is done. Some say they wouldn’t like all those signs planted in their neighborhood. They have a right to their own opinion. These yellow signs look like flowers to me when I consider the three words that are on them. I really don’t think folks are through planting the yellow “Thank You Jesus” yard signs yet!

It was a busy morning, about 8:30 a.m., when an elderly gentleman in his 80s arrived at the hospital to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry, as he had an appointment at 9 a.m.

The nurse took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.

On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.

I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was an Alzheimer’s disease patient. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, “And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?” He smiled as he patted my hand and said, “She doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is.”

The Back Nine – and Then it is Winter
~ Author Unknown ~

Submitted by: Faye Byrd

You know ... time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is... the back nine of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go?

I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that I was only on the first hole and the back nine was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it friends are retired and getting grey...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change....Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though I'm on the back nine, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this's over. A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not on the back nine yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you're on the back nine or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

"Life" is a gift to you.  The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY! HAVE A GREAT DAY! Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.”

~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!
~Going out is good… Coming home is better!
~You forget names.... But it's OK because some people forgot they even knew you!!!
~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything like golf.
~The things you used to care to do, you aren't as interested in anymore, but you really don't care that you aren't as interested.
~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV 'ON' than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep".
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch.
~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.

The Needs of Rusty
Written and submitted by: Pat Lewallen

Richard and I now have a puppy named Rusty. We rescued him on August 26th after being dog less for several years. Rusty was homeless after being thrown out the window of a passing vehicle. He showed up at my sister’s house and was severely thin, starving, and covered in fleas. Despite his needs, he was still a friendly puppy. After Rusty vacuumed up some dog food, we took him to the vet. Rusty got an exam, some shots and some medication to be taken at home. The vet said there wasn’t much wrong with Rusty that plenty of food and love couldn’t fix. We’ve fed Rusty well and given him plenty of love and he delights in loving us too. Rusty is healthy and happy in his forever home. We love Rusty and we’ll provide for him because he belongs to us.

Rusty had needs in his life before we rescued him. The needs of Rusty make me think of the many needs I had in my life before the Lord rescued me. I had problems that I didn’t know how to solve. There was a deep emptiness in my life that I didn’t know how to fill. I still remember kneeling and asking the Lord to forgive my sins and to come into my heart. He answered my prayer and my life took on a new meaning. I desire to serve the Lord as my Savior. I want Him to stay close by my side. I’m not saying there haven’t been problems since I was saved, but Jesus is with me no matter how difficult a situation I face. I can call on Jesus anytime because He’s never too busy to hear my prayers. His presence is always with me assuring me that I’m never alone. Jesus loves me and will always provide for me because I belong to Him.

If you’re lost without the Lord in your life, it’s not too late to call on Jesus to rescue you. Just ask the Lord to forgive you, save you and stay with you the rest of your life. The Lord will be with you as long as you depend on Him. I can assure you that Jesus is able to take care of your needs as long as you live in this world. He also has an eternal home in Heaven waiting for you as His adopted child. Jesus has said: “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:1-3 KJV).

Stand on the Rock

When you look at the world
All crumbling around you,
Christ is the Rock
On which you can stand.
Don’t count on the things
This life has to offer,
Or you’ll be left stranded
In sinking sand.

Money can’t purchase
What God gives so freely,
Treasures down here
Will soon pass away.
But eternal life
Is yours for the asking,
Our days are numbered
You should not delay.

You’ll find that Jesus
Will never forsake you,
He’ll lift your burdens
When you kneel to pray,
For He is the Rock
That you can depend on,
The only foundation
That won’t move away.

My Answer
Written by: Billy Graham

Question: I was watching a comedy program on TV the other night, and I was shocked at how often they made fun of people who take their faith seriously (especially Christians). I think such programs should be banned, don't you? -- Mrs. C.F.

Answer: Programs that mock people who take Christ seriously or even directly attack their beliefs certainly seem to be more common today than they once were. Perhaps we're already living in the final days of which the Bible speaks: "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires" (Jude 18).

I'm not a lawyer, of course, but while we may find programs like this offensive, they have the same constitutional right to free speech that we do. I also know that some people today would seek to limit or even take away our freedom of speech or freedom of religion, and I believe we should do everything we can to resist these pressures. If we don't, we could become like the rebellious people of ancient Israel: "They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that not one of them turns from their wickedness" (Jeremiah 23:14).

Does this mean we are powerless to turn back the tide of secularism and materialism that threatens to engulf us? No, of course not. God is sovereign, and He is stronger than all the forces of evil. He also has given us the privilege of prayer, and we should be praying constantly for spiritual revival. The Psalmist prayed, "Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?" (Psalm 85:6).

In addition, let your voice be heard. Write your television station if a program offends you and write also to companies that advertise on such programs. You may be surprised at their positive reaction.
